Saw Walk the Line last night. Jon Stewart's "Ray with white people" comment at the Oscars was far more accurate than I was expecting, but of course that's not entirely fair since both movies are biopics and all. Still, the parallels are very clear.

We had dinner at a friend of my mom's afterwards. There probably would have been some fascinating conversation if any of us could hear ourselves over my sister and her friend Lauren screeching and laughing. Tonight they sleep in the studio, which is going to be an entirely unpleasant night for me.

Oh, and a truly astounding quote from Lauren in response to my telling her that in 8th grade math my final grade was an E, or 37% to be precise...

"Out of what?" Face, meet palm.

They have released a trailer for Snakes on a Plane. Scroll down a bit to see it.

I think there needs to be a giant mob of people who go to see this at a midnight showing, because this looks like the funniest bad movie ever. And I don't say that lightly; I've seen Van Helsing, after all.

The Oscars

I'm just about ready to die of suffocation from the "Brokeback Mountain lost Best Picture because Hollywood is scared of gay people" logic being shoved down my throat over and over and over again (truly the best possible way to phrase it as well, I know). That is all.

One of those playlist meme things. )

Saw Capote yesterday with Dad and really liked it. I've seen every Best Picture nominee other than Munich right now. This is odd to me because I'm making an effort to see these movies despite the fact that, at most, I'll glance at the Oscars now and then when they're on.

After I told my dad about http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grind_House_%28film%29 (he's a Tarantino fan), he got to thinking. After a couple of seconds...

"You know what Tarantino should make? Porn. Slasher porn. Wait, no, zombie porn."

And I am entirely inclined to agree.

My only true observation about Brokeback Mountain; Heath Ledger's character has managed to take Isaac's dialect of English and throw another accent in just to make it harder to understand. Well played, Ledger.

King Kong

King Kong was entertaining. Mostly because any and every action sequence went straight to eleven.

I mean, honestly. Peter Jackson was just like "let's take this scene and throw way too much shit into it." And it works. The whole movie is hysterical. It's cool, actually, but it's still hysterical because the guy has absolutely no restraint. The sailors and movie crew can't run from one dinosaur, they have to run from TWENTY apatosaurs and like ten velociraptors through a canyon and over a cliff. Thanks, Pete.

And Kong reminds me of Richard Nixon and I honestly have no clue why.

Two notes.

Ong-Bak: The Thai Warrior is overrated. Cool, but overrated.

And I may have heard a Tegan and Sara song I don't entirely hate. That's bizarre.

This sums up Harry Potter 4 for now.

Emma Watson: *Going all-out with the emoting, going from happy to nostalgic to sad to ???? over the course of ten seconds.* Everything's going to change, isn't it?
*Beat of silence.*
Daniel Radcliffe: *With his usual "I'm almost kind of smiling and there's absolutely ntohing going on behind these glasses" look.* Yes.

More when I'm back from Best Buy/Hollywood Video. From now on I'm only seeing Harry Potter movies at IMAX in a deserted corner with Robin, Galen, and Tony treating the whole thing like a grandiose edition of MST3K.
