Nov. 7th, 2006 12:50 amIt's been a long time I shouldn't have etc. etc. etc.
My grandfather is here in Seattle for the next couple of weeks, as he has been for the past couple of weeks. Whilst I could go on about such fantastic anecdotes as his mistakenly referring to waiters as "servants" and so on, what interests me more is that I've been playing my iPod during driving lessons since he thought it would be fun to help me not suck at driving stick, and the following observations have been made:
- He's not fond of rap, but did like the beat in "The Light" by Pharoahe Monch (and god, who wouldn't?) and he really liked "Life & Debt" by Blue Scholars.
- He liked what he heard of the Velvet Underground, and he was pretty fond of Cake also (he thinks they sound like The Beatles, which is an interesting comparison).
- Unsurprisingly, Miles Davis was a favorite. Slightly more surprisingly but not THAT shocking in retrospect, he's never heard Abbey Road by The Beatles before. Or, if he has, he can't remember it.
- The only song he actively disliked was "Something" by My Bloody Valentine. Which sounded pretty bad on the car's stereo, really.
School is schoolesque. I actually had a pretty decent conversation with a freshman today about the nature of freshmen and the perception of them and so on, the state of Nova, and what can be done. Also, Uberfest 5.0 in nine days, which is awesome.
