... oh, Microsoft
Feb. 2nd, 2009 02:32 amMicrosoft Songsmith is the best thing ever. It is a Microsoft program that, as this agonizing promo video illustrates, takes someone's singing and gives the voice its own irritating MIDI accompaniment. The internet, being the internet, has, of course, found the best possible application for a concept that thoroughly ridiculous and has opted to take the vocal tracks of classic songs and run them through the songsmith blender. So here, for your viewing pleasure, are the five best things to have come out of it that I've heard thusfar.
5. "Eye of the Tiger" by Survivor - If it were remade to be the opening theme to an '80s sitcom about kids in troubled times.
4. "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" by The Beatles - Because I swear to god this is going to end up in one of my nightmares and I think everyone else should have to suffer too.
3. "Toxic" by Britney Spears - Third-rate tiki lounge edition!
2. The single most upbeat take on Johnny Cash's cover of "Hurt" I have ever heard. - Also the ONLY upbeat take on Johnny Cash's cover of "Hurt" I have ever heard.
1. "I Heard It Through the Grapevine" by Marvin Gaye - this is at #1 for a very simple reason; it somehow, miraculously, managed to actually sound like a valid remix. Like, I was listening to it and I was like "... oh actually this isn't the worst idea ever." It's like. If the best R&B song of all time turned into a bizarre '00s Eurodance club mix track, this is what it would sound like. And that is frightening and actually sort of awesome.
But really. There are millions of these. Go listen to tons of them. I really love the internet right now.
