Nov. 2nd, 2009 09:35 amI'm just going to update on the past month via a series of Top Fives.
Top Five Orchestral Versions of Ben Folds/Ben Folds Five Songs:
1. "Smoke"
2. "Zak and Sara"
3. "Narcolepsy"
4. "Not the Same"
5. "Lullabye" (my favorite Ben Folds Five song but the orchestral version has too much saxophone)
Top Five Opinions Formed At the Shonen Knife Concert:
1. Shonen Knife; nearly thirty years and a couple bassists and drummers later, still an amazing live act.
2. Visqueen; possibly Seattle's best live band, especially in terms of what you hear on the album being exactly what you hear live.
3. Ballard; possesses sickeningly few cheap convenience stores near the Tractor Tavern, and so I hate it.
4. This is probably the closest I will ever come to seeing a Ramones concert in a weird, disconnected way.
5. Getting to hear "Riding on the Rocket" and "Twist Barbie" live is going to be an "oh my god they played THAT SONG" experience that nothing else will top this year.
Top Five Halloween Costumes I Didn't Use Because I Did Nothing This Year:
1. Ministry of Silly Walks member
2. Yuppie/hopelessly lost country club attendee
3. Private detective of some sort, complete with running film noir monologue all night.
4. DR. CUBE
5. ..,.. yeah, I don't have a fifth. I could do the Evil Midnight Bomber again?
Top Five Songs I'd Like Art Brut to Play Tonight That They Didn't Play Last Time:
1. "Bang Bang Rock & Roll"
2. "Good Weekend"
3. "The Replacements"
4. "Sound of Summer"
5. TIE: "Jealous Guy" and "Moving to L.A."
Looking forward to the concert, hopefully the fact that I've only got around four hours of sleep won't scew it up for me.
